bail bonds
Dawn asked:

Let’s say that a friend bonds you out of jail. For whatevever reason (for personal reasons not related to any illegal activity) you do not want that “friend” to be on the bond any longer, can you get someone else to go to the bonding company and transfer it to their name? If yes, does the new person have to pay the bond money again or just a transfer fee?

If I ever become an attorney that specializes in criminal defense, I would get one of my long time friends to manage my bail bonds business. That sounds extremely profitable and smart to do. You simply co-own it along with your partner and still manage your own practice full-time.

I was just wondering if this is against the law or the laws of the Bar Association. Perhaps ethics laws or a conflict of interest. ?

Thanks for the responses!

They tell me he has a special kind of bond that I have to pay the full amount and can’t use a bail bonds person. Can I after he sees the Judge today? b/c I don’t have the money for the full amount. Well, I could get it but I don’t want to have to pay it back and I think he deserved to sit in jail for a few days. He has been in their since friday night. Do you his parents and I are mean for letting him sit? I’m 27 by the way we aren’t kids. I’m so mad what an idiot. I keep telling him he better be miserable in there. What if he would have killed himself or others. I’m pregnant too we can’t afford this crap. I told him this is the last stupid thing he is alowed or I’m gone. I don’t think I’m being to harsh what do you think? Oh that is a few questions in there sorry for rambling. I’m just upset.
