National University (http://www.nu.edu) offers online programs in Criminal Justice, which would be good preparation for becoming a bail agent. Most bail agents have a law enforcement or military background, and actual work experience is probably more important than formal education.
getting some criminal justice classes would be a great start but I imagine O.J.T. is the main course
There are many educational institutions that offer some type of class. The problem is that what you want to learn is not what they teach you. Many of these places offer information from all aspects of investigative services and that is all. For example: Police officers, Private investigations, collections, security officers all perform functions that interrelate in some way or another so many of these schools bundle whatever information they can find and call it a course on whatever the topic is. The best source for education is by contacting several bail enforcement agents and ask them what education they have. I know this: You need excellent communication skills, investigative skills and the ability to spend a lot of time doing research. I live in the state of Washington and in this state you must be certified in all aspects of fugitive handling… Baton, O.C., Firearms, handcuffing, tazer and pass a written test. You can’t have had any violent crimes in the past 10 years and no felony convictions.
You can find more information at and this site provides links to educational resources that are licensed by the state.
Hope this helps
