In the mid-nineties I was living in Oregon and was arrested In California. Not only did I have to own the car free and clear, but the bail bond agency had to retain possession of it until trial. Oregon did not recognize bail bond debts at the time, which may have had something to do with it,

Yes, they couldn’t do anything with it without the title free and clear.
