Yes. They could bail themselves out, and once they show up for their court date, their bail is returned back to them. The main thing is they want insurance saying you’d show up for court. If the person got a bail bond, and didn’t show up for court, people like Dog the Bounty Hunter would be after them getting them, detaining them, and taking them to court.
A bail bondsman will do it for 10% of the total and guarantee you show up. Its cheaper but if you’re guilty just stay in and the time served counts toward the sentence.
IN NEW YORK IT’S USUALLY 40% FOR A BONDSMAN TO POST A BAIL BOND. IF THE PERSON HAS THE MONEY ON THEM THEY COULD POST THE FULL BAIL AMOUNT THEMSELVES. IN SOME CASES THE COURT MAY ASK FOR A 10% CASH ALTERNATIVE TO THE BOND AMOUNT. WHICH CAN BE POSTED BY ANYONE. IN THE EVENT THE PERSON DOESN’T SHOW UP TO COURT YOU WOULD LOSE YOUR CASH. WITH A BONDSMAN THEY WOULD ATTEMPT TO LOCATE AND RETURN THE PERSON SO THE BONDSMAN AND THE PERSON POSTING THE BOND. WOULD NOT LOSE THEIR MONEY. OR COLATERAL.
