Face it, you are screwed bigtime. With friends like that, who needs enemies.

at the next court date you can show up and request to have your name taken off of his bond. Or you can call the bail bondman and request to have it taken off with them. Nothing should happen to you or his brother…seeing as you guys aren’t the ones skipping bond. they will ask you where he is, when he left, if he plans on returning. just be completely honest because lying could land you in more trouble than co-signing for an idiot.

The court is going to take judgment on the bond (and by extension the bondsman,) and the bondsman is coming after you. You will owe the rest of the $10,000.00 security, and the brother will owe the remainder of the bond not paid by the sale of the truck. You should also expect frequent visits to your home by the bondsman, as he looks to pick up the person who flees.

Look on the bright side - at least you didn’t put your house up as collateral. I’ve seen that way too many times.

all you can do is convince your “friend” to turn himself in but being that isn’t going to happen you need to think about getting a second job. sorry.

You owe them 10,000 dollars. The 1000 was their fee for services. You also owe them the remainder of the 1500 you owe minus what they get for the truck provided the truck has no leins and they can sell it.

As for the truck he left, you need to talk to the finance company, give them back the truck and pay the balance of what is owed on the truck minus what they are able to sell it for.

While I understand you do not want to lose any more money, that is not the problem of the bondsman or the finance company for the truck. When you signed those documents you agreed to be responsible for the debts.

The only thing you can do is pay what you owe and never sign for anyone again. Expensive life lesson. But in the end, it is only money.

Your best bet is to help the bondsman find him or get him to turn himself in.

This is a prime reason why I will never go bail for anyone! Sorry, you are a good guy for helping your friend … in this case “the good guy gets it in the end”.

I’m pretty sure the $1,000 you paid to the bondsman is gone, never to be in your hands again … the brother’s truck is forfeited also. James the ex bondsman is right too, you and the other signer of the bonds owe the bondsman a big wad of cash on top of what you have already forfeited!

You should be able to just surrender the truck to the finance company (bank/credit union/etc) and get that out of your hair. The finance company will sell it to the highest bidder to get their money back. If the auction doesn’t pay off the truck, you (as cosigner) will probably owe the bank too!
